Sloss Furnaces Engagement Photography | Meredith + Desi

Engagement photography at Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark in Birmingham, Alabama by David A. Smith of DSmithImages Wedding Photography, Portraits, and Events.

The afternoon of November 4th was an absolutely beautiful fall day, and it provided DSmithImages Wedding Photography, Portraits, and Events the perfect backdrop for a great engagement photography session at Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark in Birmingham, Alabama. The happy couple I got to photograph that day was Meredith and Desi, two dear friends who asked me to photograph their wedding, which will take place in Birmingham in November of 2018. I was more than happy to oblige their request.

Meredith and Desi requested we do half of the session at Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark to make use of the great and abundant industrial backdrops on the grounds. I've shot several concerts over the years at Sloss Furnaces, but this was my first engagement photography session. Going even further back than that, I even did my Eagle Scout project there back in 1999. We all could not have asked for better conditions as everything was just right to make sure Meredith and Desi's engagement photos turned out to be top notch. The colors and the numerous structures on the grounds made for great decor and atmosphere.

Once we finished at Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark, we took a quick trip down the road to the historic Morris Avenue area in Birmingham. Even though numerous other portrait sessions were taking place, we found enough locations and settings to get even more quality shots. It started to rain a little once we got to Morris Avenue, but Meredith and Desi made the best of it and decided to do a few shots against the quick sun-drenched rain shower.

Meredith and Desi were an absolute delight to photograph, and I knew they would be. They had a blast during the entire session, and their playful and loving energy translated well to the photographs. I am so looking forward to photographing their wedding in 2018 because I know it will be such a wonderful and beautiful day.
