Most associate graduation with the springtime, but that's not exactly the case when it comes to college. Graduation takes place in both the fall and spring, and, for me, that means I have the opportunity to do great portrait sessions for upcoming graduations in both seasons. I had the opportunity to do a fall graduation session for Rachel on November 30th. Rachel will soon be a graduate of The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and she wanted to do a session to commemorate this big milestone in her life.
Even though it had rained most of the day, the weather cooperated with us by the time the session began in the late afternoon. We were blessed with a pleasant mixture of sunshine and clouds, and that gave us a great starting point to use along with the backdrop of campus. Rachel primarily wanted the session to take place in front of the President's Mansion and Bryant-Denny Stadium, and I was happy to oblige. I have done numerous graduation sessions on campus before so I was more than comfortable in shooting both locations.
One of my favorite shots from the session is the one you can see above. The sun was just about to to set and helped make a beautiful shot as Rachel sat on the sign in front of Bryant-Denny Stadium. I have taken the shot numerous times over the years, but this one has moved to the top of the list in terms of favorites.
I would also like to say Rachel was wonderful to work with and knew exactly what she wanted in terms of the session. Her great personality was easy to capture and bring out when shooting the session. She'll soon be going off to law school, and I wish her nothing but the best in her future studies.
