I’ve said this numerous times before, but one of the things I absolutely love about DSmithImages Wedding Photography, Portraits, and Events is the ability to travel outside of Alabama to document celebrations of all kinds. The weekend of July 27th gave me the opportunity to do just that as I headed up to Cleveland, Ohio to photograph the wedding of Vy and Tony. Ohio became the 10th state where I have photographed a wedding.
Vy and Tony’s wedding was absolutely beautiful as it incorporated the Vietnamese wedding traditions throughout the day. Things started early in the morning at the home of Vy’s mother. As Vy was getting ready and her extended family arrived at the house, Tony’s family gathered outside. Per tradition, Tony’s family presented Vy’s family with a series of gifts to celebrate the wedding while also serving as a welcoming gesture. When everyone moved inside the house, Vy made her first appearance of the day. This is where Tony presented her a series of gifts before each family member did the same for the happy couple. When the official welcoming ceremony was complete, both families enjoyed a lavish breakfast feast. It was a wonderful way to start the day!
After the morning ceremony, Vy, Tony, and their wedding party went to David Fortier River Park in suburban Cleveland for a series of pictures. We made use of the beautiful wooded setting, the numerous rock formations, and the river and waterfalls running through the heart of the park. Getting to discover new locations like this one is always a highlight of travelling to photograph a wedding.
When the photos were done at the park, everyone headed to St. Boniface’s Catholic Church for Vy and Tony’s religious wedding ceremony. The church reminded me of the one I grew up attending so I felt right at home. Vy and Tony had an elegant and beautiful church celebration that honored traditions of their families while also marking their new union together.
The final stop of the day was Li Wah’s Chinese restaurant for the reception later in the evening. This is where everyone cut loose, partied, and had a wonderful time celebrating Vy and Tony’s wedding. The reception included traditional elements such as the couple taking a photo with each family as they arrived while also personally visiting each table for a celebratory toast. A delicious 10 course Chinese meal was served by the restaurant staff, while dance music played throughout the evening. It was a great a party for a great purpose. Everyone came together to wish the newlyweds the absolute best in their future.
I’d like to send Vy and Tony my thanks for having me come up to Cleveland to photograph their wedding. It was a great trip, and I hope to get back some day. I’d also like to extend them my best wishes as they begin their lives as a married couple while also extending thanks to the wonderful hospitality their families showed me.
